Greenwashing

Meet the requirements of enviromental marketing.

As a result of the growing debate on environmental and climate issues and the impact of products and services on the climate, companies are increasingly using different types of environmental claims in their marketing. Claims such as sustainable, green, environmentally-friendly and climate-neutral have a significant commercial value, while it is simultaneously difficult for consumers to critically evaluate and assess their accuracy. Exaggerations or inaccuracies in environmental marketing, commonly referred to as ”greenwashing”, are also widespread. As a result, strict requirements are imposed on the substantiation of marketing of environmental claims.

In recent years, several judgements have shown how challenging it is to meet the requirements of substantiation when using environmental and carbon offset claims. Many companies are found to not meet the substantiation requirements and are thus considered to be using misleading claims in marketing.

At Delphi, we have extensive experience in reviewing and clearing marketing material and environmental claims. We offer advice on legal and self-regulatory regulations, and act as representatives in relation to authorities and before courts in reviews and disputes.
